Come relax, slow down, and get hands-on in this fun workshop! You’ll design and create a playful sculptural bookend that’s both beautiful and functional — perfect for adding personality to your bedroom, bookshelf, or desk. Choose an animal, plant, wave, mountain, or abstract form and make a one-of-a-kind piece from clay, not a mass-produced decoration.
- All skill levels welcome: Our workshops are designed for everyone, whether you're a beginner or a budding artist.
- Personalized guidance: Our instructor will give one-on-one attention based on each student’s age and skill level.
- Learn by doing: Using slabs, students will create a sturdy ceramic bookend from start to finish. Students will learn how to shape and form a slab into a stable base, then build and attach their chosen sculptural design using slip-and-score. They’ll explore simple techniques for adding texture, details, and personality. Finally, students will smooth and refine their piece, creating a functional work of art that can be used on a bookshelf, desk, or nightstand.
- Take home your masterpiece: Each participant will be able to keep a piece and choose one glaze from four options for each item. Our staff will apply your glaze of choice after the first firing. You’ll proudly take home a one-of-a-kind ceramic bookend, ready to display and organize your favorite books.
This workshop is designed to spark imagination, boost confidence, and — most of all — have fun! They will be guided step-by-step through the hand-building process, all while enjoying the creative freedom from shaping the features to decorating with texture and details. Throughout the workshop, they will receive support and encouragement to explore and express their unique artistic styles!
Upon completion of the workshop, guardians will receive an email notification when the pieces are ready for pick-up (generally 3 to 5 weeks after the workshop).
