4-Week Curriculum Overview
Week 1: Introduction to Handbuilding
Get to know working with clay through foundational techniques such as pinching, coiling, and basic construction. Learn how to handle, attach, and build forms while developing an understanding of structure, moisture control, and workflow. Students are encouraged to come with project ideas and will be guided through each construction method.
Week 2: Slab Building & Structure
Explore slab construction and how to create more structured forms. Focus on thickness, surface, and structural integrity while continuing to develop your personal project.
Week 3: Form Development & Functional Design
Deepen your practice by refining forms or creating functional vessels. Learn additional techniques such as coil building and making fitted lids, with an emphasis on both aesthetics and functionality.
Week 4: Glazing & Completion
Explore the basics of glazing, including dipping and brush-on techniques. Finish your work while reflecting on your progress and next steps in ceramics.
