Firing Services
We offer firing services for small-batch pottery pieces created by ceramicists or schools outside of our studio.
We are a mid-firing pottery studio.
We provide bisque and mid-fire firing services in our electric kiln on a contract basis.
Appointment Required for Drop-off and Pick-up, 7 Days a Week
We require an appointment for reservations via email and book a time to bring in your greenware or glazed pieces on an agreed upon time during 2 pm to 5 pm, 7 days a week. You will receive an email notification when your fired pieces are ready for pickup.
Pricing
Payment by card is due at the time of drop off and there is a $20 minimum charge. Size is measured in cubic inches and the firing cost is calculated as width x length x height for contract firers.
- Bisque Firing (cone 04): $0.04 per cubic inch.
- Mid-Fire Glaze Firing (cone 5/6): $0.05 per cubic inch using your own cone 5/6 glazes; $0.06 per cubic inch using our studio cone 5/6 glazes.
- Stilting or excessive glaze cleaning by our staff incurs a $2.00 charge per piece. Drop-offs that require extra care during loading may incur an additional charge of $2.00 per piece.
Firing Policies
- Our firing schedules depend on when the kiln is filled, as it is fired on a need-based basis.
- We do not accept rush firing requests.
- On average, the turn-around time is 2 to 4 weeks.
- Fired pieces must be picked up within 30 days of the email notice sent by the studio. After this period, a $1.00 per day storage fee will be applied.
- Fired pieces will be discarded 45 days after the email notice is sent by the studio. If you are unable to pick up your pieces within the allotted time, please email the studio at spiffy@thespiffystudio.info in advance.
- We do not fire mystery clay or glaze with an unknown maturation temperature.
